ONE "STRAIGHT FOR TWO BLOCKS, THEN HANG A LEFT" LATER...
MCGURK: We're probably not going to see a sign with "sumo" written so we can read it. I knew we forgot something.
SOLOMON: What's that?
MCGURK: Japanese doesn't use the same alphabet as English does. They have two ways of writing. I can't read the Japanese, but I've seen them both in my Japanese comic books.
SOLOMON: Why do they use two ways of writing?
MCGURK: The main Japanese alphabet is Kanji, made up of characters that represent different ideas. There are about 50,000 of them.
SOLOMON: 50,000?!
MCGURK: Yep. But you can do okay knowing only about 2,000 of them.
SOLOMON: That still seems like a lot.
